Metro Hotel on Pitt's general manager Simon Wanstall will be spearheading and growing a moustache to fundraise and increase awareness for Movember - an international charity event that's dedicated to men's health. He will be joined by other Mo Brothers and Sisters.
Throughout this year, Simon and his team have been working hard to fundraise for many worthwhile causes. Their current fundraising efforts have raised well over $2,500 for charities and offered in excess of 100 hours volunteer time.
This November is all about Movember!
About Movember:
Every year, thousands of men - someone's grandfather, father, brother, uncle, partner or friend - die from prostate and testicular cancer around the world. The impact of prostate and testicular cancer on lives is substantial, with prostate cancer being the second most common cancer in men worldwide and the number of cases expected to almost double to 1.7 million cases by 2030.
Moreover, poor mental health affects men more than women: three quarters of suicides are by men. The World Health Organisation estimates that 510,000 men die from suicide globally each year. That’s one every minute.
For men, this is not good news. On average, across the world, men die 6 years earlier than women. Thus, the Movember Foundation seeks to make a global contribution to men living happier, healthier, longer lives.
In 2010, Movember launches its first directly funded program – the Global Action Plan, created to accelerate prostate cancer research outcomes through global collaboration. Through Movember funding, the world’s first Prostate Cancer Genome Mapping Project was completed, expanding the understanding of how prostate cancer works.
Since it's inception in 2003, the Movember movement has raised more than AUD$685 million, which has funded over 832 men’s health projects, impacting the lives of millions.
