A Golden Babe has arrived at Sydney Wildlife World

They’re one of Australia’s largest arboreal (tree-dwelling) marsupial herbivores and are simply spectacular, with a bright coat of dazzling gold. They are hypomelanistic; meaning they have little melanin in their skin, in fact the only place they have it is in their eyes which is why these animals have black eyes as opposed to true albino animals; who have pink eyes.
When Foster was born he was only the size of a jellybean, he spent four months growing inside the pouch and at around four months of age first started peering outside. Now at six months he has outgrown mums pouch and spends most of his time on her back.
Sydney Wildlife World’s Nocturnal keeper, Kate Blount, says “Foster is a real card, already getting up to mischief and exploring the exhibit as fast as his little legs will carry him. We’re very proud of this birth. It’s testament to our animals well being. Once a juvenile, Foster will become part of a wider breeding program to help ensure the survival and raise awareness of these incredible animals.” Did you know? • Brushtails are the size of a domestic cat with a pointed face, long oval ears, pink nose and bushy tail • The Tasmanian Brushtail has three main colour variations; silver grey, black and gold • Pure golden possums are the result of a genetic mutation and are rarely seen in the wild because they are conspicuous to predators • Their natural and preferred habitat is forest, where they nest in tree hollow • They feed mainly on leaves of trees and shrubs and enjoy succulent herbs, grasses and garden plants; they occasionally scavenge meat • The brushtail possum communicates by sound and scent; ferocious screeches and guttural growls are used • They have a hand-like back foot for grasping and a strong flexible tail for curling around branches • Like many of our native animals human and domestic animals threaten this species
With school holidays just around the corner now is a great time to start planning a trip to Sydney to see Foster, the Possum joey at Sydney Wildlife World in Darling Harbour, plus all the other fantatstic attractions that Sydney has to offer. If you need accommodation for your stay then Metro Hotels has two apartment properties ideally located directly opposite Sydney Wildlife World and Darling Harbour. Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour and Metro Apartments on King offer ideal family accommodation right in the heart of the city and close to all major attractions. To book your accommodation contact Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour and Metro Apartments on King directly. Metro Hotel Ipswich International gets ‘green’ stamp of approval
The Green Star Hotel Rating system was developed by AAA Tourism, the peak Australian tourism body traditionally recognized for assessing accommodation under the STAR accommodation system. ‘Green STAR Accreditation’ was recently developed by AAA Tourism in partnership with Green Globe, an internationally recognised certification and performance improvement program.
To be awarded the Green Star, each property must meet strict guidelines in several key environmental criteria relating to rooms, facilities, grounds and office management, demonstrating that the hotel has shown a genuine commitment to the environment and to reducing their environmental footprint.
After an assessment process that resulted in every aspect of the hotel and its services being scrutinized, Metro Hotel Ipswich International is proud to have been awarded a very healthy eco-score, enabling it to claim Green Star Accreditation.
Hotel General Manager Alex van Kersen said the hotel staff were thrilled to have achieved this goal and were extremely motivated to maintain this high standard of environmental commitment.
“Being located in a Queensland regional city, we are part of a community which relies heavily on the health of the land for our existence,” Mr van Kersen said. “We are therefore conscious of the need for water conservation and recycling of waste materials. The Green Star rating is an assurance to our guests that the choices we now offer are part of a serious commitment to the environment.”
Guests at the hotel are now offered options such as hanging their towels up to be reused; not having their linen changed daily; and encouraged to recycle materials. They will also be asked not to smoke; to turn off lights when possible; and will only be given a newspaper on request.
The hotel itself has complied with a rigorous list of essential criteria, including supplying energy-efficient fixtures, water-saving showerheads, water-saving toilets, paper recycling throughout the facility, biodegradable dishwashing detergent and a large number of other initiatives.

EZYield.com Provides Complete Distribution Solution
EZYield.com Provides Complete Distribution Solution for Aussie Hotel Chain, Metro Hospitality Group
The country’s oldest 100 percent Australian-owned and operated hotel chain expands its relationship with EZYield.com to streamline online distribution
EZYield.com, the originator of automated online distribution management solutions for the worldwide hospitality industry, has expanded its two-year-old partnership with Australia-based Metro Hospitality Group to include a complete distribution solution for the entire chain. Having provided channel management software for six of Metro’s hotels since 2007, EZYield.com has now been selected to provide comprehensive technological distribution services for the entire 14-property portfolio, with the roll-out beginning in early September. In addition to EZYield.com’s channel management software, Metro Hospitality Group will implement EZYield.com’s RoomRez booking engine to provide real-time functionality for their corporate website. The chain will also utilize EZYield.com’s new GDSConnect application, and has switched global distribution system (GDS) suppliers in order to fully realize the benefits GDSConnect offers.
“We are delighted that Metro Hospitality Group has selected our entire suite of products to help optimize their online distribution,” stated Kevin Looney, commercial director of Asia-Pacific and the Middle East for EZYield.com. “Our existing relationship with Metro provided a perfect opportunity to present them with our integrated one-stop enterprise solution during their recent GDS and online booking software technology review.” By fully integrating all three facets of EZYield.com’s distribution solution, hoteliers have the ability to amend rates or inventory through the booking engine and have that information automatically published to the GDS and their contracted online forward distribution channels. If connected to one of the many supported PMS interfaces, updates can occur with real-time availability across all distribution channels. “Due to the history and organizational foundation we have at Metro, it was incredibly important that we choose a technology that is practical, efficient and has a support team to answer any questions that arise,” stated George Bedwani, COO of Metro Hospitality Group. “EZYield.com has earned our trust, so when the opportunity came to wrap the technology into one package, we listened and decided that implementing EZYield.com’s complete distribution solution was the best decision for our company.” Further commenting on what the portfolio-wide integration means to system automation at Metro Hospitality Group, Looney continued, “Metro’s decision to implement PMS interfacing at the majority of their properties has enabled us to provide them with a virtual hands-off approach. Their employees no longer have to spend time updating the various systems manually or re-keying the bookings coming in.” For more information, please contact Debi Moses at sales@ezyield.com to schedule a demonstration of the EZYield.com solution.

Book hotel accommodation early this Christmas to avoid disappointment
George Bedwani, COO of Australian hotel chain Metro Hotels, said accommodation in Sydney is already booking fast for the Christmas and New Year period, and people planning celebrations in the city during this period should consider booking now to avoid disappointment.
“It is important to remember also that if you book early and you will save on hotel rates as leaving it until the last minute, occupancy will rise and premium rates will apply.
“Our experience is that the global financial crisis has not impacted bookings for this period at all and accommodation in Sydney will be heavily booked for December and January. If people already know the date of their office Christmas party or want to spend New Year’s Eve in Sydney, now is the time to book accommodation.”
Mr Bedwani said New Year’s Eve in Sydney continues to be an international highlight, with Sydney City Council ensuring each year was uniquely themed to ensure crowds continued to congregate around the harbour to enjoy the spectacular fireworks and other festivities on offer.
He said rooms were still available for New Year’s Eve for people keen to make the most of the celebrations, or to show visitors one of the best celebrations anywhere in the world.

Metro Hotels renames iconic Perth property

Formerly Metro Hotel on Canning, Metro Hotels has renamed its Perth property Metro Hotel Perth. The name change coincides with a $3.5 million restoration of the hotel, the appointment of a new General Manager and staff and sales team, and a new restaurant and chef.
Metro Hotels Chief Operating Officer George Bedwani said the decision to revert back to the hotel's original name was part of the Group's strategy to restore the property to its former glory as a Perth icon.
"The hotel is now a well-known landmark on Perth's skyline and has, over the past 35 years, acquired iconic status with residents and visitors alike," Mr Bedwani said.
"There is now significant demand for quality hotel accommodation in Perth. Our decision to undertake a major refurbishment of the hotel is to ensure the hotel lives up to its reputation as a 'must-stay' hotel in Perth.
"With no major hotel developments planned for Perth, Metro Hotels is also capitalising on the excellent position of this property to ensure a quality accommodation experience to satisfy this increased demand."
The hotel completed the first stage of its refurbishment last month, as well as opening a new restaurant, Chez Metro, offering diners Modern French/European cuisine.
